Biblical Fine Arts- Photography - Lesson 2
Hi Biblical Photographers,
I hope you had fun with your photos from Lesson 1! Under Lesson 2, you will see a page that is now open for you to look at what your fellow students shot.
Let's get started with Lesson 2.
Do you remember the Bible Story of Joseph and his Colored Coat? You can find it in Genesis 36-45. What happens in the beginning of that story? Jacob shows the world that Joseph is special by giving him a special "colored" coat. Sometimes if you have a special gift other people might get jealous especially if they are not blessed in the same way. Have you ever been jealous of someone else's special gift? Has anyone ever been jealous of yours? In Joseph's story, Our Heavenly Father used the sinful actions of the brothers' jealousy for the good of all of Jacob's family. Pray that HE uses your special talents for the good of others too!
There are many many potential reflections or "focal points" - parts of the story that have great importance- in Joseph's story. In literature, we would call them "themes". In drawing and photography, we call them "focal points".
We are going to focus on the idea of setting aside something to be special because of its color- the concept of "focal points". The "focal point" of a picture is the part of the picture that most people will look at first. Something about the picture will stand out. It could be the eyes, or a big area of one color. It could be something out of place.
It is said that certain colors give off certain moods. Here is a list for you to consider:
Black - Authority, Power, Style, Evil
White - Innocence, Purity
Warm Colors
Red - Love, Anger
Yellow - Cheerfulness, Optimism
Brown - Earthiness, Genuineness
Cool Colors
Blue - Peace, Calm, Depression, Cold
Green - Natural, Freshness, Relaxing
Purple - Royalty, Sophistication, Romance, Luxury
Your Biblical Photography Assignment #1: (3 photos)
